Qld: Man in court charged with rape and torture of woman
A man has appeared in court charged with torture and rape after a 26-year-old woman
was found near her burning car on Brisbane's bayside.
Police say a group of teenagers travelling in three cars saw the woman's vehicle in
flames on the side of Mt Cotton Road at Capalaba around 1am on Thursday.
The car had crashed into a sign.
When the teenagers stopped, they found the woman nearby, distraught and semi-conscious.
Police say the woman had severe cuts and bruising to her head and face and serious
burns to her chest, hands and ankle.
She had also been sexually assaulted.
A 33-year-old man appeared in the Cleveland magistrates court this morning charged
with rape, grievous bodily harm, torture and drug offences.
He was not required to plead and has been remanded in custody for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
